Windows Service Startup

The following figure is an example of a MacroView service configuration for a Windows system:

WindowsServiceDialog

The MacroView service manager configuration screen provides similar information to that present on the Unix startup line illustrated in the Unix Startup section. The following notes apply specifically to Windows startup configuration:

The Parameters can be augmented with any parameters listed in the Command Line Parameters section.
The "Log Standard Out" checkbox should be left unchecked for the driver process. The -logfile command line option provides a far more efficient logging implementation than can be achieved through the MacroView for Windows service manager.
If the -logfile command line option is used, it is suggested that the "Log File" specification on the service configuration form be filled in. This informs the service manager program where the log file resides and allows log files to be viewed from within the MacroView service manager.
Typically symax services do not need any dependencies configured. Most MacroView services depend on the symax process running rather than the other way round.
As the symax executable typically has no dependencies, the startup delay can be left at zero seconds.
Typically the Auto Restart box should be checked. This ensures the service manager will automatically restart the driver process if it stops for any reason. The restart pause is best kept as 1 minute or higher so that continuous failures do not result in a continuous high load on the MacroView server.
