The MacroView OPC MetaBridge software provides a communication bridge between an OPC Server and a client program that implements the MetaServer protocol. An OPC server is a software program that implements one or more OPC specifications to provide data access to industrial automation systems and devices. Refer to the OPC section of this document for more information on OPC technology.

The MetaServer protocol is a proprietary protocol used for communicating to the MacroView distribution from Sentient Computing and the SpectraView product from Spectrum Systems. The OPC MetaBridge functionality allows a MetaServer client program to communicate to OPC data servers as well. An overview of the range of functionality provided by the MetaServer protocol implementations can be found in the MetaServer introduction section of this document.

Example of MetaServer client programs that can leverage the MetaBridge to access OPC data include:

The MacroView metaimg communications driver.
The metaevents utility for extracting alarms/events information into MacroView databases
Applications written using the MacroView ADO.NET Provider API
Applications written using the MacroView C++ MetaComms Client API
